DIAPER CHANGING
PROCEDURES 1. Lay out the child's diaper
and needed supplies prior to placing the child on the changing table. 2. Always change children
on the changing table, never on the floor, mat, or table top. A specific
location will minimize the spread of germs. 3. Place a clean section
of paper on the changing table, under the child. The paper should be
large enough to completely cover the changing table pad. 4. Take off soiled diaper
and place aside on paper or in the diaper pail, always keep one hand
steadying the child. 5. Using a wipe or clean
cloth with soap and warm water, wipe the genital area from front to
back. Place cloth or wipe aside on paper or in the diaper pail. 6. Apply ointment or powder
if requested and provided by the parent. Written permission from the
parent is required for all topical ointments. 7. Put on clean diaper. 8. Wash the child's hands,
remove child from table and place child in the appropriate play area
or sleep area. 9. Place diaper, wipe , and
paper in the diaper pail. 10. Wash hands thoroughly
with liquid soap and running water. 11. Dry hands with disposable
paper towel using it to turn off faucets. 12. Place child's supplies
back in the storage area and prepare for the next change by thoroughly
washing down and sanitizing the changing table with soap and water followed
by a standard bleach solution or germicidal cleaner. 13. Mark the diapering chart
/ daily record.
